low slung moon woodworks

“I grew up in a family that believes in gathering together, spreading kindness, sharing meals around tables, learning new things, loving nature and loving each other. The pieces made in this shop embody this appreciation of nature and spreading love. to honor this, we create woodworks that lend to gathering and are built to be proudly passed down through generations.”

Founder/Creator

Collegiate golf coach by day, woodworker by night. Low Slung Moon’s founder, designer, and woodworker has never fit into many norms.

Born and raised in North Augusta, South Carolina, Darby has a style that embraces history, while combining beautiful modern elements and unique spatial vision. Wood speaks volumes to her, and the ability to find beauty in the most arbitrary pieces drives her to continuing to create art for others. Her joy in woodworking lies in the transformation of being able to build well-loved pieces of furniture from one of nature’s finest elements.

Before Low Slung Moon Woodworks was created and born out of quarantine in 2020, Darby’s time was spent on her first career passion: coaching, inspiring, motivating, and mentoring young adults in their quest for success on and off the golf course. The same traits that allow her to make beautiful pieces of wooden art today have been leading her in a highly touted playing and coaching career since 2001. That career started as a student-athlete at the University of Alabama. Following graduation, she landed her first Head Coaching job in her home state of South Carolina (Newberry College). She then headed to the cold cornfields of Illinois (Illinois State University), and finally landed in her current role in Raleigh, NC as the assistant women’s golf coach at NC State University.  During that crazy carousel ride, she inherited quarter-sawn pine from her late Granddaddy Carl, and the quest to create something beautiful began. Fast forward eight years into woodworking and her love for design and sense of style has only strengthened through worldly travels recruiting for the Wolfpack.

Championships and awards have decorated her coaching career, but she’ll be the first to tell you those aren’t the memories she cherishes. In a similar mindset, as L.S. Moon grows and more of her pieces are being enjoyed by others, Darby will always measure the success of her woodworking by how much love and laughter has taken place surrounding her products. The sole motivation behind this venture in sharing her creations with others is always to provide happiness to the recipient. The real excitement comes not only in making her own visions come true but in helping her customers own the piece of their dreams that will be passed down for generations.
